What I think happens when you crack a glow stick there are two different chemicals and when you crack them you are cracking the plastic making two chemicals mix making it glow.
some other ideas I heard where good too! one of Jayden's comments of it was pretty good when you crack the glow stick to an extent it releases a chemical which makes it glow. Another one I heard was
